Receiver / Shark Listening Station
Receiver / Shark Listening Station
Information about our Receiver project
Late 2022, we started deploying new acoustic receivers (shark listening stations) and acoustic tags to Caribbean reef sharks as part of a new and exciting project on this globally endangered species. We already have a variety of animals tagged with acoustic tags, from silky and dusky sharks to smalltooth sawfish; however, we are expanding our research to include the iconic Caribbean reef shark.
We currently have an array of receivers around The Bahamas that records data as animals pass by (think of it like tagged cars passing a toll booth), which offers new movement data on reef sharks that no one has ever attempted in Andros before!
This new acoustic tagging program could be supported by you. If you would like to adopt an acoustic receiver, we will name it after you or your brand. We can even place your name or branding on the receiver and capture photos of the receiver being deployed!
What you will receive
Although we cannot share our data, we will provide some rough information on the sharks detected by the Receiver and the estimated location of your Receivers placement. Receivers typically have a lifespan of 5-8 years.
We will also send you a thank you email, along with an adoption certificate which will be sent as a PDF to your email address, allowing you to print it, if you desire.
You will also (we predict!) receive a feeling of positivity and hope, as you support important, vital conservation work.
To note
After purchase we will email you to discuss any names or branding you would like us to add to the Receiver.
**This adoption does not support a particular animal. It supports an overall project**
